Did You Know That Weight Loss From Diet Can Be Linked To Bad Breath?

New Year's Celebration With Lots Of Confetti

It’s the end of 2019, and approaching 2020. You know what that means. Time for a New Year. A new you. This starts with taking care of your health and your body.

Time to start burning all of the calories from all that yummy holiday food you’ve been eating right?

This means you need to go to the gym and watch what you’re eating. Now that you’ve had your holiday fix of sweets, treats, and sugar, you can hold off on them till the next holiday (Valentine’s Day?) and now time to work all of that off in the gym.

How should you be taking care of your health in 2020?

To gain the confidence to talk to others (especially in cases up close and intimate), you might be interested in losing weight with means like fitness.

Hitting the gym, lifting heavy ass weights, giving it your all. There’s nothing more personally satisfying like putting all the effort in to get the results you want.

For ideal physical results, we advocate a series of compound lifts – the squat, bench, and deadlift paired with a diet concentrated with high protein, meats, carbohydrates, and veggies for optimal nutrition, recovery, and muscle synthesis.

This can really get you the body you want, and the confidence associated in speaking with others, BUT certain forms of dieting can cause you to start experiencing bad breath.

Kind of ironic, right?

Imagine yourself having a conversation with someone relatively attractive. They’re dressed well and stylish, take care of themselves, groom themselves well if they’re male or properly do their skin-care and make up routines if they’re female.

But you notice one thing:

Their breath smells.

This is a huge turn off and can negate any feeling of attractiveness.

How Can You Tell That You Have Bad Breath?

What’s the first thing someone would want to do when they experience smelling the bad breath of others? Think fight or flight response – they’ll want to run or find some excuse to leave or keep the distance within the conversation.

You might even notice some discomfort in some of the nonverbal cues the other person will have. It’s almost impossible to hide these nonverbal cues unless heavily trained. These non verbal cues will be a heavy indicator in which you can see how other’s perceive your bad breath.

Some Non Verbal Cues Include The Following:

  • Covering of the mouth
  • A scrunching up of the face
  • Subtly managing to keep the distance away
  • Constantly finding excuses to leave the conversation….Everytime
  • Feet start pointing away from you

The worst part of it all is that one’s breath is really a societal taboo. In everyday life, whether at work, a family get together, or simply running errands, one’s breath, is simply not talked about. You’ll practically never hear from anyone that you have bad breath, so gauging what others do around you will help you determine if you have bad breath.

Why would you experience bad breath from diet and exercise?

Its generally known that a low carb diet paired with healthy fats and proteins will cause you to lose weight. There are even other popular extreme measures of diet that we are on approve with as they yield results. There’s Keto, Paleo, and even more specific, programs that advocate a general diet framework such as LeanGains or Kinobody.

However, when you do so, your body produces ketones as it breaks down fatty tissue for energy with the lack of glucose from carbohydrates.

The ketones are then exhaled, causing notice of your bad breath. It has somewhat of a sweet, acidic, maybe even a metallic feel to it. You might even have a nasty burp exhaling a bunch of it out at once, calling for a very unpleasant experience.

Keto works, don’t get me wrong. You can read about countless stories online about weightless through Keto. I’d be surprised if you haven’t heard of Keto at all at this point to be honest.

Will you lose weight doing Keto? Yes.

Is it the best way? Debatable. (A more straight up answer would be no)

How To Stop Bad Breath From Diet Related Causes:

We first need to make sure that your body does not go into a state of ketosis – this means bye to extreme low carb diets like the Ketogenic diet. (Doesn’t mean go crazy on carbs though, or you can kiss all the work you’ve done goodbye!)

Try a paleo diet instead of Keto.

An omelette is a perfect example of something both Keto & Paleo friendly – just be sure to get some fruit and potatoes for carbs! Those carbs go a long way in extra energy, speaking from experience.

What is a Paleo Diet?

The Paleo Diet is essentially a diet consisting of what people ate during the Paleolithic era.

Simply put, a Whole Foods diet consisting of mostly meats, vegetables, and none of that processed crap that we all eat everyday like bread, pasta, chips….

Nothing like some pasta & bread to make you feel like you’ve been hit by a brick when you wake up in the morning

You might expect to feel sluggish the first few weeks when you transition from Keto to Paleo or from the typical American diet to Paleo, but don’t worry, it’s normal.

Bear through it, and I guarantee you will see results, both in your physique, and your breath!

When you go on the Paleo Diet and start to ingest carbohydrates, your body will no longer be producing the Ketones that your body does when you are on a Ketogenic Diet.

You will have carbohydrates that will be broken down for energy, and not some sweet, sickly smelling Ketones.
